TECHNICAL VISIT BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC (UNESCAP) TO THE MARINE HEADQUARTERS, MALAYSIAN MARITIME DEPARTMENT

Port Klang – YBhg. Captain Abdul Samad Bin Shaik Osman, Deputy Director General (Operations), Malaysian Maritime Department (JLM), received a visit and technical tour by representatives from UNESCAP, Mr. Fedor Komitlitsyn, Mr. Sooyeob Kim, and Commander Ang Chin Hup. The technical visit to JLM aimed to share information regarding the roles and projects undertaken by UNESCAP, particularly in the autonomous shipping project.

YBrs. Captain Abdul Samad also expressed JLM's willingness to collaborate with UNESCAP to implement pilot projects that could be carried out in the future. The UNESCAP representatives were also taken on a tour of the VTS Klang control center and the Dius Api Tower to observe the operations of the VTS, which monitors and oversees the safety of navigation in the Strait of Malacca, one of the busiest shipping routes. Nearly 80,000 vessels pass through the Strait of Malacca every year, with supervision provided by the personnel at the VTS Klang control center.

Also present were the Directors of Divisions, Heads of Units, and officers from the Marine Headquarters of JLM.
