Traffic Management and Aids to Navigation Division

Introduction

Objective

Manage the implementation of activities related to Maritime Traffic Services, Marine Aids to Navigation and Control of Oil Spill and Hazardous Materials from Ships based on the national laws, rules and standard and towards maritime growth.

Functions

  • Plan, implement, regulate, monitor and governs the Mandatory Ship Reporting system (STRAITREP), Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), Automatic Identification and Tracking System, Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and Notices To Mariners.

  • Plan, manage and oversee standards, construction, operation, repair, maintenance and monitoring of marine aids to navigation.

  • Plan, manage, coordinate, supervise and implement operational control for oil spill and Hazardous Noxious Substances (HNS) from the ship.

Activities

  • Implement Mandatory Ship reporting system In the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (STRAITREP), Automated Identification System (AIS), Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT), Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), NavigationalTelex (NAVTEX) and notices to Mariners.

  • Implement Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) for the ports and coastal.

  • Monitor the compliance of Ship Traffic Separatist Scheme in the waters of the Straits of Malacca.

  • Manage the construction, operation, maintenance, repair and monitoring of aids to navigation.

  • Approve the standards and specifications of marine aids to navigation.

  • Implement and coordinate the combat and cleaning of the oil spill from the ships during the Tier 2 and Tier 3 as well as Hazardous Noxious Substances (HNS).
