As the Malaysia Marine Department, we celebrate the International Day for Women in Maritime on 18th May. Women are playing a vital role in the maritime sector, both onshore and at sea, to achieve a decarbonized, digitalized, and sustainable future for the industry. However, we still face a significant gender imbalance in the maritime, and we must accelerate change to improve diversity in the workforce.
This year's theme is "Mobilizing networks for gender equality", emphasizing the importance of collaboration and networking to achieve gender equality in the maritime sector. We are proud to support the IMO-established Women in Maritime Associations, which are paving the way to support women in maritime worldwide. Let us celebrate the contribution of women in the industry, from navigators and engineers to CEOs and government representatives.
We extend special appreciation to the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for their support in celebrating Women in Maritime this year.
