OPENING CEREMONY TRAINING FOR SHORT-TERM TRAINING COURSE FOR VTS OPERATORS
PORT KLANG, 8 August 2022 – The Training for Short-term Course for VTS Operators was launched by YBhg. Dato’ Hj. Baharin Bin Dato’ Abdul Hamid, Director General, Marine Department Malaysia (MARDEP). This Training course is a joint effort between MARDEP and The Japanese Government attended by the 10 ASEAN States, which from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Accompanying the Director General are Captain Mohamad Halim Bin Ahmed, Deputy Director General (Planning), MARDEP, Captain Abdul Samad Bin Shaik Osman, Deputy Director General (Operation), MARDEP, Mr. Hairizam Bin Albukhari, Director of Traffic Management and Aids to Navigation Division, MARDEP, Ts. Dr. Julyus Melvin Mobilik, Director of MATRAIN, and Mr. Nordin bin Mohamadin, Director of Ports, Logistics and Trade Division.
Also present at the opening ceremony are Mr. Saito Hiroaki, First Secretary of The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Mdm Norhasliza Binti Mat Salleh, Deputy Under-Secretary of Maritime Division, Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Mr. Tomotsu IKEDA, Chief Executive Director, Japan Aids to Navigation Association, Mr. Omar Frits Eriksson, Deputy Secretary General of IALA, and officials from Malaysia and Japan.
Rear Admiral Tsuguo Awai, Deputy Director General of Administration Department, Japan Coast Guard and Mr. Hoang Hong Giang, Chairman, ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group (MTWG) also present virtually.
MARDEP, through MATRAIN is indeed honored to have the privilege of hosting this Training for Short-Term Course for VTS Operators as result of the Expert Group Meeting on Advanced Personnel Training Program for Vessel Traffic Service.
This VTS Operator training short-term course has been designed to be implemented in accordance with IALA V-103/1 model course to provide specific knowledge and skill necessary for qualification as a VTS Operator. The participants will be awarded with the V103/1 VTS Operator Training Course Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Perhaps these collective efforts will help to ensure that the ASEAN waterways remain safe for international trade and commerce which will in time, bring much economic progress and development for all.
