Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) is a safety procedure, types of equipment, and communication protocols that have been internationally agreed upon to ensure the safety of vessels and facilitate search and rescue operations for ships, boats, or aircraft in distress.<\/p><p>GMDSS consists of several new or existing systems that have been operational for several years. This system aims to: provide alerts (including the location of units in distress), coordinate search and rescue, detection, disseminate maritime safety information, general communication, and ship-to-ship\/emergency call center communication.
