The Marine Department is responsible for matters relating to shipping, training, certification and examination of seafarers and safety of navigation in Malaysian waters.

The objective is to ensure safe and secure shipping, protect the marine environment and facilitate sea-borne trade.

 

OBJECTIVE

To establish a system for safe, secure sea lanes of communication and marine conservancy towards the enhancement of national maritime development

 

 

MAIN FUNCTIONS

  1. Safety of navigations in Malaysian waters;
  2. Safety of Ships, i.e. Ship’s registration, Boat licensing, Ships inspection and surveys;
  3. Training, Certification and Examination of seafarers;
  4. Facilitate ships in ports

 

MAIN ACTIVITIES

  1. Registration of ships and licensing of boats; 
  2. Enforcement and Regulating shipping laws;
  3. Ship’s inspections and surveys;
  4. Flag State and Port State Controls Inspections;
  5. Enforcement of ISM Code;
  6. Verification of ISPS Code;
  7. Marine Accident Investigation;
  8. Training, Certification and Examination of seafarers;
  9. Prevention and control of marine pollution;
  10. Installations and maintenance of aids to navigation;
